Questions & answers
Frequently asked questions
Is the federal 1040 really free?
Yes. Preparing your federal Form 1040 — including the worksheet, supporting schedules, the filled IRS forms, and a federal-only export — is completely free, with no per-return charge and no upsell to finish. You only pay when you add a state return.
What does a state return cost?
A flat $14.99 per state, one time — no subscription. You unlock a state only when you’re ready to file it, and the federal return stays free either way.
Which states are supported?
ReturnReady computes the states with an individual income tax. The nine states with no wage income tax (Alaska, Florida, Nevada, New Hampshire, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Washington, and Wyoming) need no state return at all. If a state you need isn’t available yet, let us know and we’ll prioritize it.
Can I e-file?
ReturnReady produces the official, filled IRS forms and an e-file export so your return is ready to submit. We’re expanding direct e-file coverage — in the meantime every return can be printed and paper-filed, and the export drops into standard filing workflows.
Is my data safe?
Yes. Your information is encrypted in transit and at rest, it is never sold or shared, and you can permanently delete your account and all of its data at any time from your account settings. The software is built and maintained by a practicing CPA who treats your records the way a firm would.
What is the Valuation Processor?
It takes a closely-held business from its tax return to a defensible conclusion of value — income, asset, and market approaches, reconciled — and produces a finished, letterheaded report in PDF or Word. It’s built for CPAs and advisors who need standards-based work (Rev. Rul. 59-60) without enterprise pricing.
How does billing work for the Valuation Processor?
There’s a free tier to try it, then Solo at $29/mo and Practice at $79/mo (up to 3 seats) for unlimited reports, white-label output, and the full feature set. You can change or cancel anytime. See pricing for details.
Do you offer support?
Yes — email derrickcpa1@gmail.com and you’ll hear back from a real CPA, usually within a business day.
